Maryland Furs and SOMD Furs are teaming up to visit the DC Zoo on July 28th, 2018!

Our meeting location will be at the Zoo Entrance closest to the Metro! This means the Zoo sign across the street from 7-11 and Starbucks! Depending on the amount of people who make it in the morning, we will try and arrange for a group photo at the meeting location, if not we will try and take the photo later in the day while we are in the Zoo.

This will be a non-suiting event, as we are in the summer months and heat will be a concern. Please feel free to don your furry accessories, sans tails as the zoo will be crowded and they risk being damaged. Please dress accordingly and comfortably.

Admission is free to attend for everyone although they do have activities at the Zoo that have various fees. More information can be found at the Zoo’s website (http://nationalzoo.si.edu/) including how to get there via car or metro. Please keep in mind that parking is 22$ per car at the zoo, so if you are planning to drive there, it may be best for you to carpool with a friendly fur to save some cash. If you are driving, please be sure to leave early, as parking spots in the zoo will fill up quickly.

If you are trying to save as much money as possible, please make sure to pack a lunch and some snacks, as we will probably be at the Zoo for sometime, and the food and water there is expensive. We should be having lunch sometime in the afternoon. There is an mini-cafeteria there, as well as snack stands and vending machines.

We will be trying to stay as a large group as long as we can to make us easier to find, though we may break off into smaller groups to see different exhibits. This will be an open event, meaning that you are free to come at whatever time you please, just know that it may be harder to find us later in the day. If  you have not been to the National Zoo before, then here are some highlights: The Baby Panda, Orangutan Overhead Crosswalk, Petting Zoo, The Bird Aviary, The Amazon Rainforest Exhibit, The Big Loud Cats, and many more exciting exhibits. Keep in mind that the Giant Panda House may be closed due Mei-Xiang possibly being pregnant. Bei Bei and Tian Tian will have access to be outside until 2 p.m., due to the weather, the best time to see them will be outside from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Indoor viewing will be closed.

For those using the Metro to get to the zoo, while equidistant from both Metro stops, the walk is uphill from the Woodley Park stop and flat from the Cleveland Park stop. Keep this in mind when taking the metro.

If you have any questions in regards to the Visit, please be sure to message @SyLoX and his team in the Maryland Furs Telegram group, or @agoreable and their team in the SOMD Furs Telegram.

We hope to see you there!
